|
The groom and bride will need to have witnesses on two events of the civil marriage: - The first is when they apply for the qualification process for marriage. On this day, the groom and bride must bring two witnesses, such as friends or relatives, other than their own parents or grandparents, who will have to bring their original ID cards. These persons will have to be prepared to attest that groom and bride have no impediment to get married.
- The second occasion is for the wedding ceremony. On this day two witnesses of 18 years of age or older, who are also called best man and bride’s maid or sponsors, will be needed to bear witness to the act of matrimony. These witnesses may be the same ones that were present for the qualification process, or different ones. This is up for bride and groom to decide.
- If the marriage is to take place at an outside location (referred to as in Diligence), 4 witnesses will be required.
- If the marriage is to take place at the Registry, 2 witnesses will be required.
